I heard about a new book & Pew survey on NPR several nights ago which at its center was the claim that it will be the next generation soon coming to its majority that will have the sensibility and ability to save this nation and the perhaps world.
Grand statement, I know. The argument goes that the Millennials, those born 1981-2000, will have the makeup to look beyond the self-interest of careerism and fortune seeking and see that only in working together, a sharing in the common good, will we as human beings solve the problems we as human beings have created.
They will be able to do this because the task will engagement them and inspire them to creativity in all areas of human endeavor from economics to social development. They will tackle this because they will want to !
Think about the Arab Spring or the activists who are occupying Wall Street and financial districts in other cities, these young people are joining and leading a new cultural revolution that captures the imagination of many .
Our responsibly, as human beings, is to be responsible for the well being of each other. We are meant to build up and not tear down. Our humanness, our gift of life, asks this of us, Christ demands this of us, and the Holy Spirit leads us towards it. This is the Kingdom of God - here, but not yet complete.
Look out for one another. Out of love, take care of one another. Be responsible for the whole (kingdom of God) and not just our own little corner (of this world).
