Is it all too much?

The media gives us a bleak view of the world around us.  Social, cultural, political, economic, environmental, each area has deep issues and divides.  We live in a time where there is so much that needs to be done globally and locally that our head spins with the thought of it.  Sometimes we may have short bursts of activity sometimes we just try and get by, a sort of batten down the hatches mentality.  It’s all too much.
But where there is God there is hope and future and God is everywhere, so there is hope and future everywhere.
If we start from this perspective we can do the little things close at hand that will ripple out into the world.
Nothing we do for the glory of God and for the good of others is in vain.   Nothing is too insignificant to build up God’s kingdom.  Wherever you find yourself there is work to be done and you are capable of doing it. This is life in the Holy Spirit – thoughtful and active.

In these days we, more than ever, we need to be aware of the moment of the Holy Spirit in the ordinary and every day.  We need to see the movement of the Holy Spirit at work in the world (and it is), especially in a world that seems so broken. We know the Spirit is at work because our Lord told us -

“I will be with you, always, even to the end of time”

This is a promise we can count on. Hold on to this.  It is this promise that gives life to his words -

“Do not be afraid”

When anxiety and fear are the norms then to not be afraid is a radical act of Faith.
When any action feels futile than any action you take is an act of Hope.
When looking out for ourselves seems to be the rule, than looking out for another is an act of Love.

Hang tight as we ride this out with the grace of God, the guidance, encouragement and comfort of the Spirit.
To paraphrase St Paul - Rejoice always, pray unceasingly, and give thanks in all circumstances, even now.
